Maybe you’ve heard about lab-grown diamonds. What are they all about? Should you consider them?
Yes! Lab-grown diamonds are real
diamonds. They’re made of pure carbon like regular diamonds and are identical
chemically and optically to mined diamonds. The only difference between lab-grown diamonds and mined diamonds is their origin. That’s it!
At Planetdiamonds.com, we’re proud to use these diamonds in our lab grown diamond earrings and in our very popular lab grown diamond stud earrings.
How Lab Grown Diamonds Are Made:
Making lab diamonds is done by
simulating the process that happens over thousands of years in nature; applying
heat and pressure to carbon in the laboratory. This can be done with high
pressure and high temperature or chemical vapor deposition.
Which process is used? It depends
on the color and size of the diamond you want.
Lab-grown diamonds possess the
same chemical makeup as mined diamonds. So, they are graded on the 4Cs just
like regular diamonds. No one will know the difference between your diamond and
a mined diamond.
There are excellent reasons to consider lab-grown diamonds over mined diamonds:
- Lab grown diamonds are made in artificial conditions. You don’t have to worry about the diamond
being mined in poor conditions by poorly paid workers. Lab-grown diamonds are manufactured sustainably by well-paid
professionals.
- Mining diamonds uses a
lot of fossil fuels, affects the climate, and damages the environment. Lab
grown diamonds are completely sustainable.
- Lab grown diamonds use a
tiny amount of the fuel and electricity of mining diamonds. There also is
no damage to the world’s precious lakes
and rivers.
- Lab grown diamonds can be
made with renewable energy. They are environmentally friendly!
- Lab made diamonds are a good value. They
may sell for up to 1/3 less than mined
diamonds. You can purchase a larger, better gem for the same price. That’s
a good deal.
